Original WWII-era Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (“Cross of Honour of the German Mother”), Bronze Class, instituted on 16 December 1938. This civilian decoration was awarded to German mothers with four to five children as part of the period’s state honours system.
This example shows correct period construction with blue and white enamel panels over a radiating bronze-toned sunburst. The reverse bears the correct “16 Dezember 1938” inscription with facsimile signature, as issued.
Condition
Good to Very Good overall condition. Enamel displays age-appropriate wear with no modern restoration observed. Metal surfaces show honest patina consistent with age. Reverse inscription remains clear and legible. Ribbon and case not present.
Historical Context
Instituted in late 1938, the Mother’s Cross formed part of Germany’s civilian awards structure prior to and during the Second World War. It remains a documented example of pre-war European state decorations and is collected today for its historical and numismatic significance.
